The first stage of six was variable with a number of rolling hills, but despite this, Team Captain Roman van Uden described it as an uneventful day.
“We just kept in touch with the peloton which blew up with 4km to go,” said Roman, “the favorites just went for it.”
Director Sportif, John “Harry” Harris, was pleased with how the first day went for the team: “we didn’t place too highly, but it was exactly how we planned to race the first stage.”
“Today was a nutrition day, we didn’t want to go to hard because it makes it difficult to do well on the other stages,” said Harry.
