AVANTI BIKES PRODUCT RECALL
A New Zealand wide product recall has been issued by Sheppard Cycles New Zealand for the recall of various models of the Avanti Carbon road range of bicycles.
Models affected:
The recall affects the following Corsa SL, Corsa ER, and Giro C models.

You can check the bottom bracket, at the bottom of the bike where the crank set is, for the details of the serial number.
The affected bicycles were available for retail sale from 1 July 2014, both online and through independent bicycles dealers.
Defect & potential hazard:
Model Group A
It has been identified that model year (MY)14 to MY18 Avanti carbon fibre road bike Corsa SL models have the potential for the seat clamp bolts to break, or for the frame to develop minor hairline cracks in the frame over time (possibly due to overtightening) where the seat clamp bolts enter the frame.
As a result of the bolts snapping and / or the frame developing a minor crack over time, there is a risk or possibility for the seat post to slide downwards inside the frame whilst riding the bicycle, which may cause the rider to lose balance and injure themselves and others.
Model Group B
It has been identified that MY16 to MY18 Avanti Corsa ER and MY17 to MY18 Giro C road bicycles may have the potential for the seat clamp bolts to break during use (possibly due to overtightening). There is a low risk or possibility for the seat post to slide downwards inside the frame whilst riding the bicycle, which may cause the rider to lose balance and injure themselves and others.
What to do:
Stop using the bicycles immediately and contact the retailer that you purchased the bicycle from to arrange for a replacement seat post clamp kit to be re-fitted.
