USA Update from BMXer Sarah Walker

29 April 2010

So the first part of our overseas journey went really well. We were originally meant to head to Holland to train with the Dutch team but due to the Volcano Eruption in Iceland, we had to stay put in New Zealand for a few extra days.

Ended up heading to America to train in the sun and get a couple days track time on the USA SX (Supercross) track.

The team enjoyed their time on the track and for the new guys to SX tracks, it quickly went to the top of their favourite tracks list.

We ended up getting 3 days on the track which couldn't have been much better preparation for the Denmark SX in a couple weeks. We had to wait one day while the rain did it's thing before we got on the first time the following afternoon.

The 2nd session, I got to do some gates and first straights with the USA girls. It's been a while since I've had 6 other girls to train with and it was a refreshing change.

Day 3 on the track was the best of the 3 sessions for me. Got the first straight a lot better and was messing around on the 2nd and 3rd straights with a lot of jumping and even squeezed in a full lap sprint at the end of it all. The boys also got to train with the top American guys and test the waters a bit putting down some awesome first straight action.

Today we are off to Italy for rounds 3 and 4 of the European Series before heading to Copenhagen, Denmark for the second SX race of the season.

Cheers,
Sarah
