Richard Anderson
Richard Anderson has been racing Cross Country mountain bikes competitively for a couple of years now under the coaching guidance of Tony Catterick. Since this partnership Richard has demonstrated his outstanding talent and commitment to the sport. Richard is now racing as an Under 19 and gained his first National title at the Wellington National Championships in March 2010.
In 2009, his first year as an Under 19, he placed 2nd at the Nationals in Nelson and worked extremely hard to make the New Zealand team which travelled to the World Mountain Bike Championships in Canberra, Australia. Here he placed 14th, 2nd Under 19 NZ rider and 2nd non European rider to cross the line. This has been a career highlight to date and one that helped Richard to decide to seriously pursue a mountain bike career.
This year he is off to Europe to gain valuable race experience before heading to the World Mountain Bike Championships at Qubec in September. He is hoping that with his racing experience in Europe and the points earned this will enable him to have a front starting position on the grid or at least close to it. ?The World Mountain Bike Championships is what is all about and is what you want to be peaking for?. From this point onwards Richard is looking towards gaining a Mountain Bike spot with the New Zealand Olympic Team for 2012.
Richard comments "I'm very pleased to be involved with Avanti and proud to be representing a locally based brand. The Avanti Team Competitor is one of the fastest bikes I have ridden. Its stiff, light and it feels great. I have full confidence in racing this bike. There have been no compromises when developing this top end bike".
