Lightning results as racing warms up
The Savings & Loans Cycling Team scored a double victory at the South Australian state titles in August, with Michael Stallard winning the Elite title and Andrew Roe claiming the Under 23 prize.
David Pell took a stage victory in the Tour of Gippsland, part of the National Road Series and Will Dickeson rode from scratch to win the Megafert Burra Classic Handicap.
These wins show the great form that all the Savings & Loans riders are in as they start preparing for the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, one of Australia's leading cycling tours.
Roe joins National Road Team
Savings & Loans rider Tim Roe was selected as part of the Australian National Road Race Team to compete against some of the world's best cyclists in the Tour of Ireland.
Tim finished 33rd in the race, which was dogged by tough conditions and less than half of the starters in the race crossed the line on the final stage.
As well as cold and wet conditions, the Australians were competing against a raft of international teams, including the Astana team led by Lance Armstrong, Columbia-HTC, Saxo Bank and Rabobank.
The international racing was great preparation for the Jayco Herald Sun Tour, where the Savings & Loans team will race against Bradley Wiggins of America's Garmin Slipstream team, who finished fourth at this year's Tour de France.
Roe is lining up as one of the Savings & Loans team's lead riders on the tour, running through Victoria from 11-17 October.
New rider on Savings & Loans roster
Shaun McCarthy has joined the Savings & Loans team for the remainder of the 2009 season.
The 23-year-old from Bendigo, known as a strong finisher and expert criterium rider, is hoping to impress his new team.
Shaun has had some strong results during his career, including third place in a stage of the Jelajah Malaysia and two stage wins in the Bay Criterium Series.
Community spirit from Savings & Loans team
Savings & Loans rider Will Dickeson has given encouragement to Australia's next crop of professional cyclists, visiting students at Adelaide's Westbourne Park Primary School.
Will showed the kids his race bike and the special equipment riders use at the elite level. Westbourne Park students have been fiercely competitive in the Pedal Prix competition and Will's visit is sure to spur them on.
Joel Pearson and David Pell have also been taking their bikes into primary schools in regional Victoria.
