Good old London town - Kris

15 May 2008

Just wanted to quickly catch up with everyone and let you know what I've been up too over the last 4 and half weeks.

The running block has come and gone here in Germany and I made it!! It was pretty tough but I managed myself well over the weeks. I've come out of it feeling better than I felt last year and a whole lot better than the year before.
When you do a block like this time management is really important. There never seems enough time in the day to get all the training done and still recover before the next session. Below is an example of a days training from the phase I was just in.

Wednesday's
My Alarm would go off at 7 am. I would get up and have some porridge and a very very strong coffee. The first session was a Run for 2 and half hours in the forest. Always tough with a lot of hills in the loop I would do. Then I would eat again, relax for a bit and get on the bike for a 2 hour "recovery ride". After the ride it was back to eating and relaxing again. If I was lucky I might try for a bit of shuteye, But most of the time I was so smashed from the training that my heart rate wouldn't come down enough to let me fall asleep. Come 5 pm I was on the move again and in the gym doing a weights and core session. A bit more to eat and drink and I was straight into the pool ( next to the gym) to be in the water 7. I'd then "try" to swim up and down the thin black line for about an hour and half or so. Lastly when the clock hit 9 pm you'd find me sitting on the couch watching CNN or eurosport, enjoying my dinner ( finally ) yeeha!!
Welcome to my world.

Enough of my sad sorry stories lets hear about what's ahead. On sunday I'll be racing in London in an Invitational sprint race. I'd always planned on racing this weekend, but it was to be in France. But due to a situation there I've had to make a change of plans. So when the invitation for London came about I was really happy as it falls on the same weekend as when France would have been ( this weekend ). So most importantly I've not had to compromise or change my plans. And can still get a race after this block of training and before I head to Altitude.

As I just mentioned on monday after London I go directly to Altitude in France. It will be for the first of two times before traveling to Beijing. I really love it up In Font Romeu, and the training environment there is amazing. I can't wait to get up there and build on the work I have been doing down here in Saarbrucken. Its really exciting for myself to see the small percentages of improvement I'm gaining still as I work towards the Games!.

Well time for a nap. It is an easier week, but I'm still pretty fatigued from the last month. So why I hit the hay here in Germany you can all work away at your desks in Gods own...

Ciao,
Kris
