Debbie Tanner 8th in London

19 August 2009

Well I am just about homeward bound. I have just touched down in Japan after racing last weekend in London.

(check out this link) http://www.triathlon.org/?call=TVRBeQ==&keep=sh you may need to copy and paste it in? and click on the play button for the womens race! ENJOY

It was a great race and for the first time in a long time I really felt myself racing.

I had just spent the last two weeks in France training with my coach and then came down from altitude three days before the race. The race was held at Hyde Park near Buckingham Palace. The organisers where testing procedures and protocols for the lead up to 2012 Olympics.

The swim was in the Serptine (which did come close to looking like a rather large duck pond) but in fact it wasn't too bad. I had a great swim coming out in about 7th place, the bike was flat and unfortunately the packs came together later on in the bike which lead to about 40 women coming into transition 2. I knew this was going to be a critical part of the race and came out of T2 in 3rd place and the pace was ON ! a small group formed and there was no holding back!

The run was a 3 lap course and I was feeling really good, as I said above the best I had felt in a long time, Nicola Spirg the eventual winner was putting in some strong surges and I was hanging on for dear life until the last lap as I started to fade, I knew I had to fight hard to keep the distance from the chasers behind, unfortunately with just under 1km to go my legs blew and I pushed and pushed but 3 girls ran past me in the final few metres but knew I had given my all.

I finished up 8th and know heading into Japan I am ready to rumble again. Racing hard like that I think will really bring me forward for this weekends race in Yokohoma. It is a big turn around with the time change and travel but want to ensure I have a good race with valuable points up for grabs and a last big race before the final in 3 weeks in the Gold Coast.

Cheers
Deb
