Boulder Update - Debbie
31 May 2007
News from Boulder Colorado
It's been nearly two weeks since touching down at Denver INT Airport, and since then I have been re-energized by Boulder. As much as it is hard to leave the cold and rainy weather behind in NZ and head to summer to indulge in the coffee shops and embrace the mountains, someone has to do it.
So the air up here is a bit thinner, so it has taken a few days to acclimatize and adjust. It's a matter of figuring out what the body can handle up here without going over the edge. It is almost like red-lining a car with the handbrake on... Your body is constantly working even when we are just sitting here. It's quite cool but I also have to be careful of recovery, its remarkable of how tired you can get but looking forward to the next couple of weeks here, training with different people and being in an inspiring environment.
I am also living with Lorraine Moller and her family who is an Olympic Bronze Medalist Marathon runner so very handy to pick her brains, but also a great location and understand what an athlete is like to live with.
She recently got inducted into the Denver Athletics Hall of Fame, so we had a night in Denver surrounded by some of the worlds best runners!
In the weekend the Boulder to Boulder 10km running race took place. It is a massive race with top international runners competing. It was interesting talking to some of the Kenyans about their success and what it meant in their country. One of them had medaled at the Olympics and received 500 cows for his success. To buy a house in Kenya you need to sell 2 cows - need I say anymore!
So in three weeks time I will be off to Des Moines, Iowa for my next start in the World Cup circuit. Really looking forward to racing again and seeing how the form is after being at altitude.
Thanks for everyone's support it is great to hear from you all when overseas.
Cheers
Debs
